Jamie Tiralla and her husband Benson started Monnett Farms in 2010. The farm is located in Prince Frederick, Md. and has been in Benson’s family for four generations. Benson’s grandfather had been a tobacco farmer until the 1980s and when the couple moved there in 2007, they saw an opportunity to start a family and a business. The couple has three children, Caroline (8), Henry (6) and Isaac (3).
The Tiralla family raises Angus beef cattle, Kiko goats, St. Croix and Dorper sheep and feeder pigs. They sell their meats at a farmer’s market in Southern Maryland. They are members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Calvert County Farm Bureau. Jamie a District Director on the Maryland Farm Bureau Board of Directors, a member of the Maryland Young Farmers Advisory Board and a member of the Advisory Committee to the Maryland Rural Legacy Board. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Maryland University College.
Jamie is an entrepreneur at heart. The livestock farm started as a hobby/side business but within a few short years, the Tirallas decided to make it a full time business. Jamie also owns an agricultural-focused marketing agency and is a freelance writer for the Delmarva Farmer. Moving to the farm has opened many doors that Jamie says she could have never imagined otherwise. Because she didn’t grow up on a farm, she says being involved in agriculture has given her the opportunity to learn new things, meet new people and broaden her perspective on life.
Jamie Tiralla is available to present on a variety of topics including advocacy, leadership, agriculture, entrepreneurship, marketing and communications.
